7. Resin Paperweights with Embedded Objects

7

Resin paperweights are a delightful way to preserve a small meaningful object inside a clear, glossy block. They make thoughtful gifts and look beautiful on a desk or bookshelf.

Materials: paperweight molds, two-part resin, small objects to embed such as shells, coins, keys, photos, or beads, and clear casting resin for the best optical clarity.

Steps: Mix a small batch of clear resin and pour a base layer into the mold. Let it cure until tacky. Place your chosen object on top, then pour more clear resin to cover it completely. If the object floats, hold it in place with a toothpick until the resin begins to thicken. After curing, demold and polish the edges with fine sandpaper if needed.

Time and difficulty: Plan on 20 minutes of active work and 24 to 48 hours of curing. This is a beginner-friendly project that rewards patience, especially when working with floating objects.

Customization ideas: Embed a grandmother’s button, a ticket stub from a special concert, a tiny seashell from a memorable beach trip, or a handwritten initial pressed in clear film. These pieces become instant keepsakes.
